Bride Interview with Judith White

Please take a moment to read this before hiring Judith and her planning team.

How long have you been doing what you do and how did you become a Honeymoon Specialist?

While I was raising my young son, we took one huge vacation every year and at least two mini getaways during the spring and fall. At that time we didn’t have internet travel options so I utilized the services of a local travel agent not far from my residence. I would collect hundreds of travel magazines and brochures and I immersed myself in the whole aspect of planning vacations for my family and friends. I got familiar with the industry language and how important our personal tastes were in the selection of vacation options. At the time, I was in a dead end job and decided to go back to college and my Academic Advisor encouraged me to pursue my education in Hospitality Management. I had the opportunity to volunteer for the travel agency I booked travel with and I worked a few resorts and realized my true passion and gift was planning vacations. Planning vacations where everyone was happy felt wonderful and I realized that I need to figure out how to make this my career. And so I did.

Over four years ago, after working in various positions in the healthcare industry I was laid off. While others with the same fate were devastated, I was actually very thoughtful and began twirling in my brain how to transition my gift and knowledge into my own travel company. I conducted some research and within weeks joined a large travel organization and once again immersed myself into learning even more about travel. During this education process, I realized that I wanted to specialize in a segment of the travel industry. While I enjoyed planning holiday trips, it wasn’t long before I realized that I absolutely loved planning honeymoons.

I truly resonated with brides especially because I did not have my own dream wedding and my son had a very disappointing honeymoon. I didn’t have a lot of the current resources at the time of my wedding and through the years I would look back and say “I wish I had known, I would have done my wedding so much differently”. Talk about a second chance. When my son was getting married, my daughter-in-law was gracious enough to include me in her wedding plans. I was able to lend her some advice on things I didn’t do well with my wedding. Their wedding was magical. We forgot one tiny detail though. The honeymoon! We hired a wedding planner but not a honeymoon planner. Too late we realized that even though we could look through the most amazing travel magazines and call upon friends and family members or even travel agents and use their outstanding talents, we really needed someone to whom they could articulate their dream honeymoon to and then leave the stress of planning behind and show up and have the most amazing honeymoon ever.

As I worked with dozens and dozens of brides and their families, I saw a need for education about honeymoon planning to help struggling stressed out brides, grooms and families plan and design their dream honeymoon. I had found that many brides and grooms are very unaware of the details of honeymoon planning and the discounted experience they could have by doing it themselves.

My favorite thing ever was when I discovered how to eliminate the “ick factor” around honeymoon planning, that “ick” being stress, lack of time and know-how, in addition to helping people discover who they are and what is truly important to them. The best part about tapping into these keys for dream honeymoon planning is that I learned how to allow my couples to focus on their love for one another more than all that other stuff that tends to get in the way.

And now, I’ve discovered all sorts of amazing ways to work with brides and their families around the world and that feels awesome to be able to help so many people.

Everything sounds great... So, can you tell me what really sets you apart from all the other honeymoon planners out there?

White Sand Travel is a full-service, full-time Honeymoon and Destination Wedding Planning and Design company, based in Stone Mountain, Georgia, serving the world. We do not have another “day job” that you’ll have to worry about not having us to respond to your questions, concerns or desires in a timely manner. We will always get back to you and you are always a priority for us because we only work with a limited number of brides per year.

We will match destinations and honeymoon packages to your honeymoon planning needs, loves and personality. Our honeymoon packages are also extremely unique...from one to another, meaning that they are custom to our couples, not to what I love or to what my tastes are. It’s not about me - it’s about you. I’m not trying to recreate my own dream wedding day or honeymoon. You would not be happy if I did that, and neither would I, to be quite honest.

I have a passion for what I do, which will be obvious in my work and in our conversations. I love helping others create their dream honeymoon and I love adding to the beauty that already is love - who wouldn’t?

This all sounds so wonderful. But, it also seems expensive. Are we going to be able to afford all this?

I’ve read that it takes the average bride many hours to plan her honeymoon. According to one groom who contacted me “My fiancé and I are getting married on May 16th 2009 in Atlanta, GA. We split up the "wedding tasks" and I thought I had the better end of the stick. I'm in charge of the DJ, transportation, preacher, bartender and honeymoon. Simple, right? Not so much. After spending days clicking on websites and falling asleep with the computer still on, I was all but fed up with the honeymoon”. Sounds familiar? Yikes! I’ve had so many clients tell me how much they’ve saved in time, money and energy working with us.

Many people believe that using our services will mean that their honeymoon will cost more than booking it themselves. What many people don’t realize is that hotels and airlines set the prices, not the travel agencies. While many agencies do mark up their prices, we do not. At White Sand Travel, we want you to have great service and a great price. We work with some of the oldest and best suppliers in the industry. You’ll find our pricing to be very competitive. We’re often able to price match many of the online agencies. And we have access to promotions and specials that you can’t always find from the online giants.

I’ve had dozens of people who decided that they would rather do their honeymoon planning themselves with the Online Travel Agencies. However, many have reported after their trip that their experience was not what they thought all because they didn’t know about some of the hidden things. And probably the worst of all, it wasn’t even close to what they wanted. Well, that hurts my heart, and I don’t want that to happen to you too.

Who do you work best with?

You will benefit best from working with me if you want your dream honeymoon, but you either don’t have the time, the resources or the know-how to get this done. If you know what you want, but have no idea how to get there or if you are not clear at all about how to plan the honeymoon of your dreams, that’s okay. You are a perfect candidate.

Who is not going to benefit from my help planning your honeymoon?

Please know that I absolutely delight in helping brides and their families create their dream honeymoon experiences, but we have to be a match for one another if we’re going to create the most amazing day that you’ve always wanted.

So, if you’re a chronic skeptic, don’t understand the value of having a honeymoon specialist, or have trouble seeing that you deserve the most fabulous honeymoon possible, this is not going to be a good fit. It’s absolutely OK if you think that you’re in this category, but you need to do some soul-searching and thinking before we get started. Otherwise, I won’t be able to help you the way you need it. You absolutely must know that you are deserving of the gifts that are there for you before you can receive them.

Will I lose control of my own honeymoon if you are planning it for me?

No, of course not! That is not the point of honeymoon planning. The point is being an extension of who you are and of your creativity. You are the focus of your wedding and it’s totally your day. We’re just here to help you fully explore your potential and fully realize your dreams in ways you never even realized.

Do you take credit cards and can we have a payment plan?

Yes. We happily accept all major credit cards. That’s how we do most of our business actually. What also makes us different from others is that we can setup automatic payments so that you never have to worry about sending checks, and you don’t have to think about paying us before the wedding.
